Publisher's Comments:
Most devotional books start with what's on the author's heart, not yours. So you read about Jonah feeling sorry for himself on the day you get a big promotion, or about spiritual victory when you're grieving over the death of a loved one. It's not that the author's thought or inspiration isn't true; it's just that it isn't timely.
In your hands is a book that attempts to change all that. Rhythms of the Heart features more than 200 readings on 28 different emotions and life conditions, from the pounding beat of anger and shame to the gentle tapping of brokenness and hope. And the readings are from the hearts of fellow believers, among them Jay Kesler, Max Lucado, Pamela Reeves, and Gary Richmond.
Enter Rhythms of the Heart wherever you find yourself emotionally. Return to favorite readings again and again.
We all have the right to experience a full range of emotions in our lives - God created us that way.
About the Editor:
Shelley Chapin is Executive Director of CSC Ministries ("Committed to Sharing Christ"), manager of two Christian radio stations in Tyler, Texas, and a family counselor in Dallas. A graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas and Dallas Theological Seminary, she is currently working on her PhD in Counseling.
Shelley began a journey with cancer in October 1982, and since that time has traveled widely to churches, medical schools, hospitals, and conferences to share the lessons she has learned in the company of suffering. Her love for people has taken her overseas for many short-term missions trips, including more than twenty trips to Poland.
A musician and writer, Shelley has also authored Within the Shadow (Victor, 1991), a biblical look at suffering, death, and the process of grieving; and Counselors, Comforters, and Friends (Victor, 1992), a book about caregiving in the church.
