Even Though the World Has Shifted Into High Gear, We Still Need 'Real' Books!
The pace of life continues to ramp up every single day. Have you noticed that the objects we used to experience with our physical senses are diminishing, and are being replaced with some form of virtual reality? And while this is very convenient for many things, such as finding your way around with GPS, I find that lovers and collectors of books ~ real books ~ may never get used to the idea of holding yet another 'device' to access their favorite past time.
As humans, we were gifted with our five physical senses for a reason. As we slip every nearer to the complete takeover of living our lives in front of, or holding some type of screen; the touch, the scent, the very act of flipping through a book and reading it, is a gift you just can't experience any other way! Call me old-fashioned, but not feeling the 'buzz' of EMP impulses on my wrists when reading, nor getting blurry-eyed by piercing blue light is SO very refreshing! Not to mention worrying about your battery running out.
The world still contains millions and millions of physical books that are looking for a home like yours! They come in all shapes and sizes; colors and textures. They are celebrated by people of all ages - children and up through the most advanced years. I dare say, we book lovers have a solemn responsibility to circulate real, physical books throughout the earth. And, while the virtual realm does have a purpose, and is convenient for many things, let's not allow it to encroach upon the place books STILL hold in our world.
Whether you'll find your next reading 'experience' in your personal library, public library, borrowing from a friend, or at your favorite bookstore, let's go on a mission to make the books we cherish a continued and relevant part of our world, for years to come.
